ATHOLL TILT
The Atholl bloodlines are one of the oldest recorded lines in Highland Pony breeding. There are 27 ponies in the herd at present and almost all are sired by Atholl Tilt (Fergie of Strathmashie/Marilla of Invervack).
Sadly Atholl Tilt passed away in November 2005 due to suspected Equine Grass Sickness, which has been a huge loss for the Estate. The progeny he has left are all very well boned, sturdy, true to type, original Highland Ponies. All of his offspring are of quiet nature, weight carrying and ideal ponies for doing all of the occupations Atholl Estates expect of their ponies.
The Estate is now into their next generation of breeding of Atholl Tilt’s line, a sought after, undiluted line that is dedicated to keeping traditional ponies, who will excel in all the tasks a Highland Pony is capable of - ability to work on the hill, trekking, family pony showing ring and many more – also to promote the breed and keep it’s versatility.
Atholl Tilt’s stock have been successful in the show ring with numerous ribbons in ridden classes and in-hand.
The stud is still up and running without Atholl Tilt at present, and the next generation of mares and fillies with Atholl bloodlines are ready for breeding. It is hoped we will be able to breed another stallion in the very near future to replace our much missed Tilt.
Visitors are most welcome to come along and view our herd by prior arrangement. Young stock are occasionally for sale.
